Matthews Shows New Marking & Coding Systems
At PMMI Pack Expo West This Summer

Featuring New Drop-on-Demand™ Ink-Jet Solutions
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, July 5, 2001 - Matthews International Corporation will display a wide range of marking and identification systems, including three new or recently introduced ink-jet printing systems, at PMMI's 2001 Pack Expo West Show in booth #2449 in Las Vegas, NV this September 10-12.

Jet-A-Mark® DOD 5100 Large Character Ink-Jet System
Displayed for the first time at PMMI is Matthews' new Drop-on-Demand™ DOD 5100 large character ink-jet system. This new system offers a choice of two 16 and 32 valve print heads for coding up to five lines of text. The head design allows greater tilt angles in order to print a variety of character heights from a single print head. Character sizes may vary from 3/16" to 5" (5-128 mm). The system produces high-resolution text and graphics with a printing resolution of up to 32 dots per inch.

The DOD 5100 is rugged, reliable and suitable for applications in which vibration or dust, are produced. With inks for both porous and non-porous substrates, the DOD 5100 provides high-quality, reliable printing on corrugated cartons, shrink-wrap, plastic and other surfaces. The system prints at speeds up to 780 fpm (240 m/min).

Scan Bar Codes Direct-to-Print with Matthews New EasySelect™
Coupled with the DOD 5100 will be Matthews EasySelect Upgrade Option. Developed for Matthews' 5000 and 3000 series of Drop-on-Demand™ printers, the new feature allows users to scan a product or pre-printed bar code reference sheet on-the-fly to provide remote message selection within any production line. It's simple to use and reduces message selection errors while minimizing product changeover time.

Message selection is simplified via a quick scan of any bar code to choose the appropriate message for case coding purposes, thus delivering an innovative material handling solution in applications, which demand fast, product changeovers. EasySelect compliments Matthews' wide range of marking and coding systems for complete package and product identification.

Maximum Printing Flexibility with the R4 Ink-Jet Controller
Connect up to 16 printheads, mix S.C.I. F.I.™ 3200 and DOD 5100 CPU boards to configure the perfect ink-jet system for your application with Matthews new R4 Controller. This cabinet can be equipped with 1-4 CPU boards providing a series of printing possibilities with text, graphics and bar codes-both small and large character. The R4 is available with or without built-in keyboard and display.

Scriptmark High Speed Laser Coding System
Other high performance systems from Matthews include the Scriptmark laser marking system. The Scriptmark provides more creative design capability, easy message creation, high speed marking, reliability, low operating cost and no consumables. These systems produce superior, high quality marks for precision bar codes, texts and identification marks including complex logos.
